The Union of Doctors of Medicine of Montenegro (SDMCG) appealed to the citizens to wait for the autopsy report, which will determine the cause of the baby's death in the hospital in Nikšić.
In the SDMCG press release, they also stated that "one tragedy should not be allowed to produce additional tragedies".
"We are begging and appealing to the citizens to be patient and reasonable in this painful moment for the family, to whom we express our sincere and deep condolences. The doctors and medical staff of OB Nikšić are asking for patience and time for the legal procedure to determine whether an omission occurred in this case . The loss of a child is the greatest tragedy for a family, but also for the entire society. A tragedy that is not preceded by a warning. Doctors and other health workers are just as human as everyone else affected by this tragedy. They are also taken aback," the SDMCG statement said.
They add that the doctors are obliged to take care of everyone who depends on them in the Nikšić hospital just as if this tragedy had not happened.
"With an equal dose of composure, rationality and empathy. Shouts in which doctors are called murderers, while they are taking care of patients, disturb them and the patients who need them equally. Let's not allow one tragedy to produce additional tragedies. As we are informed by colleagues OB Nikšić, posted is the suspicion that the unfortunate event is the result of the sudden death of an infant. It is a syndrome that affects children under one year of age, and it is most common precisely at the age of four months. It is a syndrome that is the leading cause of death in infants under one year of age in countries that keep precise mortality statistics of newborns. The diagnosis of sudden infant death is made only if the clinical and autopsy findings do not establish a clear cause of death of a healthy newborn".
SDMCG appeals to wait for the autopsy report and determine the cause of death.
"With a little patience and composure, the institutions will have answers to the questions of parents and the public. Then we will be able to express opinions and positions competently and justifiably, taking care not to condemn anyone unfairly and in advance for this unfortunate event," the statement concludes.
