In Nikšić, free identification, registration and vaccination against rabies for all owner's dogs will begin at the end of this month, the Korina Association announced.
As they state, this will be implemented as part of the project "Responsibility first #OPS2023" implemented by the aforementioned association.
"This project aims to contribute to the reduction of the number of abandoned dogs in a humane and systematic way and to improve public health in the territory of the municipality of Nikšić, through the improvement of the way owners and hunting dogs are kept," said the association.
The idea of the project, they say, is to contribute to the long-term control of the population of abandoned dogs in the municipality of Nikšić.
"During the implementation of the project, numerous activities related to the protection of the welfare of dogs will be included, while the emphasis will be placed on visiting 32 local communities and carrying out identification (microchipping), registration and vaccination against rabies in households (door to door) and/or in the veterinary clinic. outpatient clinics at a selected veterinarian, as well as raising awareness about infectious diseases of dogs with a special focus on leishmaniasis," the announcement states.
All dog owners in Montenegro are obliged to provide identification (microchipping), registration and vaccination of the dog against rabies, as well as to have a certificate of registration and vaccination of the dog against rabies (passport).
"All newborn dogs in the territory of Montenegro are subject to dog identification, no later than 90 days from the date of birth, i.e. during the first vaccination against viral diseases or leaving the litter. Imported dogs that have not been permanently identified are also subject to identification, and the identification is carried out for 15 days from the day of entry into Montenegro," explained the Korina Association.
Identification of dogs is done with microchips. During identification, dogs receive their unique identification number, which is entered into the Central Database. The microchip for identification of dogs and cats consists of a unique fifteen-digit number.
"The fine for individuals, i.e. owners who refuse to register their dogs, is from 100 euros to 1.000 euros, and on this occasion dog owners from Nikšić will be given the opportunity to fulfill their legal obligation completely free of charge," said the association.
They invited all interested citizens to apply by sending a message to the number +382 (0) 69 90 07 07 (SMS, Viber, WhatsApp) or via social networks @teamkorina.
