The Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK) filed a request to initiate misdemeanor proceedings against the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, for violating the law.

The agency, told "Vijesta" from the institution headed by Jelena Perović, did this on July 26, because Milatović did not submit a report on assets and income within 30 days from the day he assumed office.

Milatović confirmed to "Vijesta" that he forgot to submit a report on assets and income a month after taking office.

"In the first half of the year, I submitted a regular annual report on assets, income, and extraordinary as a presidential candidate. I forgot to submit another one when I took office," specified Milatović.

He pointed out that he submitted the report immediately after he "received the information that the Agency had initiated a misdemeanor proceeding".

According to data published yesterday on the Agency's website, Milatović reported that he earns 1.932 euros per month. He also reported that he earns 550 euros from renting an apartment, and that he earned 3.000 euros from lecturing at the University of Luxembourg in January of this year.

The president owns an apartment of 46 square meters. He shares the second property of 68 square meters with his wife Milena. Milatović also reported that he is the owner of a house under construction with an area of 107 square meters, and that he inherited 9.500 square meters of land.

Milatović has more than 24.000 euros in his accounts, and his wife has more than 9.700. The president is in debt in the amount of 80.000 euros, with an installment of 550.

Milatović did not provide insight into the bank accounts.

Neither did his predecessor, Milo Đukanović, and the Agency is checking when the probate proceedings ended, after which the former president inherited a third of the apartment and cottage, as well as savings of more than 33.000 euros.

According to the Law, the official is obliged to submit a special report within 30 days of the change of property of more than 5.000 euros.

According to information from the Agency's website, Đukanović did not do that.

His office announced that the changes in the report he submitted in October occurred "as a result of recent probate proceedings following the death of his mother."

"The Agency, by official duty, is checking the report on the income and assets of the former public official Milo Đukanović, during which, among other things, the circumstances to which your question refers will be determined," the Agency replied.

Đukanović was supposed to submit the report after leaving office by the end of June at the latest, but he did so on October 11.

The Agency previously explained that he previously asked them for an opinion, and that he submitted the property report only after receiving the institution's response.
