A red weather alert has been issued for Friday for the entire country due to the weather that awaits us.
The Institute for Hydrometeorology and Seismology (ZHMS) has issued a warning for heavy rain, strong south wind and waves at sea for Friday and Sunday.
"Certain consequences on the ground are potentially possible," the ZHMS press release states.
"A wide and deep high-altitude cyclone with a center over the North Sea, provides a valley over the western and central Mediterranean. In the lower and front part of the cyclone there is a strong south-west high-altitude current with warm moist and unstable air, which gradually moves eastward, i.e. towards our area, and at the same time slightly cooler air arrives from the northwest and generates strong frontogenic processes, with rain, showers and thunderstorms and a stormy south wind. Moderate to completely cloudy, rainy and windy. Occasional showers and thunderstorms, heavy rainfall in some places, and locally severe weather is possible "Increased and strong wind, with gusts of storm or hurricane. At the end of the day or in the evening in most areas, the precipitation will stop, and the wind will weaken, possibly earlier in some places," writes the ZHMS website.
They state that the weather will be similar on Sunday, as on Friday, while significantly less rain is expected on Saturday.
"As a result of the heavy rain, short-term problems with an abundant amount of water are possible locally - flashflood effects. Especially in urban areas, on torrential streams and along roads that cut through mountain slopes," ZHMS warns.
