The professional conduct and performance of the Office of the Representative of Montenegro before the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg was also recognized by the European Commission (EC), the Office of the Representative announced.

The Office of the Representative stated that in the Progress Report of Montenegro for this year, the EC referred to fundamental rights, the legislative and institutional framework for the protection of human rights and the fulfillment of international legal obligations.

"In the section dedicated to Chapter 23 - justice and fundamental rights, the EC, as in earlier reports, gave a positive assessment and particularly stated that Montenegro continued to provide a good level of cooperation with the ECtHR," the statement said.

The Office of the Representative said that in June of this year, 89 petitions were pending before the ECtHR.

It is stated that the ECtHR did not issue a single judgment in relation to Montenegro during the reporting period, while it issued five judgments in relation to last year.

"During the reporting period, 292 petitions were assigned to one of the court formations. Currently, no case against Montenegro is under the increased supervision of the Committee of Ministers," said the Office of the Representative.

They said that the EC's positive evaluations in the context of fulfilling the relevant international legal obligations that represent the scope of work of their office are the result of their many years of professional and dedicated work.

As they stated, this was recognized by the highest bodies of the European Union and the Council of Europe.

The Office of the Representative said that this work is reflected in high-quality and professionally prepared written statements in defense proceedings before the ECtHR, as well as in the preparation and creation of action plans/reports in the execution of judgments before the Committee of Ministers.

"Keeping in mind that the positive evaluations regarding the professional conduct and performance of the Representative refer to the field of realization, promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms and respect for the principle of legal certainty, as one of the basic elements of the rule of law, we emphasize that they certainly represent an incentive for persistence in the further professional representation of state interests," the announcement says.
