The Network for the Affirmation of the Non-Governmental Sector (MANS) today called on Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović to immediately open a case and open an investigation against the director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK), Jelena Perović, in connection with the transcripts of the communication she had with the accused former president of the Supreme Court. Vesna Medenica.
"The content of the communication between Perović and Medenica gives sufficient grounds for suspicion that the current director of KAS has committed several criminal acts, including abuse of official position, negligent work in the service, illegal influence, and incitement to illegal influence," MANS said.
They said that, bearing in mind that Jelena Perović currently holds a public position from which impeccable professional integrity is expected, they believe that even "the doubts created by the mentioned communication with Medenica" are enough to call into question the credibility of the decisions that the ASK has made so far. but also all those that will be brought in the coming period.
"The correspondence with the former president of the Supreme Court left very little room for doubt that the previous illegal decisions of the ASK were the result of Jelena Perović's legal ignorance, and not a conscious intention to absolve the highest state officials of responsibility through a misinterpretation of the law," MANS added. a.
They said that, in connection with that, it will be "especially interesting" to see the decision on the initiative to check the origin of part of the property of the former state president Milo Đukanović, "which refers to the collection of expensive watches, the adoption of which was recently announced by Perović".
"On the other hand, almost all the decisions in the key cases of checking the assets of high-ranking state officials have so far been made in their favor, i.e. by releasing them from any responsibility for violating the law. The silence of the KAS and avoiding to act on the submitted initiatives, but also the decisions made contrary to the law have so far been the subject of several judgments of the Administrative Court, while the quality of the decisions themselves was the subject of criticism in the European Commission's latest report on Montenegro," according to MANS.
They remind that this non-governmental organization has been warning for a long time "about the fact that the credibility and professional integrity of ASK has been seriously damaged", primarily, according to MANS, by the actions of its director, Jelena Perović, against whom several criminal charges have already been filed with the competent prosecutor's office.
"The continued stay of Jelena Perović in this position is absolutely unacceptable and would be a clear sign that Montenegro is still not ready to deal adequately with corruption, especially corruption within state institutions, which represents the biggest obstacle to the further implementation of reforms and the continuation of European integration." , the announcement concludes.
