The NGO "Zagrad Montenegro" from Nikšić announced that even after ten months since they submitted the initiative to protect the Seloštak forest complex, they have not received any response from the Environmental Protection Agency.
"The Secretariat for Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of the Municipality of Nikšić sent a request to the Agency ten months ago to determine, in accordance with its competences, whether the Seloštak forest site deserves the status of a natural asset. However, until today we do not have anything concrete in terms of feedback from the Agency", said the president of the NGO "Zagrad Montenegro". Ivan Đurović.
He reminded that in the letter sent to the Secretariat, which was forwarded to the Agency, it is stated that Seloštak is located near the Lukavica plateau, which is proposed to be a protected natural asset in the municipal plans as an Area of Exceptional Characteristics.
"Given the fact that the municipal plans proposed that Lukavica be a protected natural asset, and taking into account that the Seloštak forest complex with its uniqueness and visual characteristics is located in the immediate vicinity, and that through this forest site there is a main asphalt road section that leads to Lukavica, the Konjsko plateau, Kapetan's Lake, we expected that the Agency would respond more promptly in order to find a modality in the context of the connection of these two localities, that is, to initiate the procedure for the protection of the Seloštak forest complex", pointed out Đurović.
It is a complex of more than 238 thousand square meters.
"With its protection, the devastation of the locality would be prevented, the level of protection against logging, fire and other negative impacts would be increased, and a higher level of conditions for the improvement of the locality and its tourism valorization would be achieved. "We received support to put Seloštak under protection from numerous citizens, nature lovers and environmental organizations," Đurović concluded.
