The ecological movement "Ozone" has published data from measuring stations for air quality monitoring, which show that on Sunday the air was enormously polluted in Nikšić, Pljevlja and Bijelo Polje, and that in those municipalities there were high indices of PM10 and PM2.5 hourly concentrations. particle.
The permissible daily value of PM10 particles in the air is 50 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3), which is the maximum value that the World Health Organization considers safe for the health of the population, while the hourly value of PM2.5 greater than 110 µg/m3 indicates very high pollution air.
As far as Pljevlja is concerned, when it comes to PM10 particles, the most critical was at 17 and 18 p.m. - 282,1 and 437,2 µg/m3, but the permissible value of these powdery substances was exceeded throughout the day. The hourly values of PM2.5 particles were far above the permitted value, which indicated very high air pollution, and it was especially alarming at 17 and 18 pm - 241,6 and 379,1 µg/m3.
In Bijelo Polje, too, the situation was the same as in Pljevlja, and the concentration of PM10 particles exceeded the permitted value throughout the day. The highest concentration, even five to seven times above the permitted limit, was at 16, 17 and 18 pm - 243,7, 323,6 and 340,5 µg/m3. In the same time interval, there was also the highest value of PM2.5 particles - 232,8, 312,9 and 328,3 µg/m3, although the value of these particles from 11 o'clock onwards was above 110 µg/m3, which indicates a very high air pollution.
In Nikšić at ten o'clock the concentration of PM10 particles was 211 µg/m3, well above the permissible limit. Concentrations of PM10 particles exceeded the permitted values at nine (124 µg/m3), 11 (190 µg/m3), 17 (91 µg/m3) and 18 hours (109 µg/m3). The hourly value of PM2.5 particles was highest at noon and an hour later – 168,7 and 151,3 µg/m3.
"Sunday in Nikšić was accompanied by very high, in our opinion, alarming air pollution, which overshadowed the atmosphere of the first snow in our city. The morning hourly concentrations of PM10 and PM2,5 suspended particles, which represent a health hazard for all citizens, were in the zone of very high pollution, which was the reason why we warned citizens not to spend time outside in order to protect their health. During the evening hours in Pljevlje and Bijelo Polje, very high air pollution posed a danger for being outside, which must be explained to the citizens and influenced to prevent the consequences", said the director of "Ozone" Aleksandar Perović for "Vijesti".
He pointed out that the Ecological Movement "Ozone" through its service "Ekoskop" for air quality monitoring, is trying to influence citizens to be informed in real time about air quality, to create a habit of protecting themselves as much as possible, as well as to encourage the whole society to the problem of air pollution gets the attention it deserves, especially from the authorities.
"As the heating season is underway, when air pollution comes to the fore, we believe that it is necessary to constantly monitor the results of the state air quality monitoring network on the website of the Environmental Protection Agency. In our opinion, this is also a matter of the culture of living in this time when, unfortunately, it is up to the individual to protect his health, as much as possible", said Perović.
He recalled the recommendations of the Institute for Public Health, when it comes to staying outside during high concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 particles.
"Everyone can start to feel the negative impact of air on health. People with heart and lung diseases, the elderly and children may experience a more serious negative impact on their health. According to the recommendations of the Institute for Public Health of Montenegro, people with heart and lung diseases, the elderly and children should avoid spending time outdoors, as well as long strenuous physical activity outdoors. It is desirable to reduce prolonged and strenuous physical activity and the rest of the population. Frequent airing of closed rooms is not recommended", reminded the director of "Ozone".
