The health institution of the Pharmacy of Montenegro, Montefarm, announced today that it expects to deliver 120 boxes of the drug "taxol" in the next two days.
The news announced this morning that breast cancer patients were left without scheduled chemotherapy yesterday at the Institute of Oncology of the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG), because "Taxol" was missing.
Montefarma said that they are not a direct importer of medicines and medical devices, but that they call for tenders for their procurement for the needs of the public health system in accordance with the Law on Public Procurement.
"The delay that occasionally occurs in the delivery of any medicine or means is most often due to the supplier's inability to deliver the contracted quantity, and this is mainly due to problems with the manufacturer itself," Montefarma's press release points out.
They added that they addressed the issue in view of the interest of the media regarding the delivery of the drug "Taxol" (INN paclitaxel) solution for infusion, especially to oncology patients who need it.
Montefarm said that "Taxol" used by oncology patients is on the List of Medicines under the protected names Sindaxel inf.1*30ml and Pataxel conc. solution for inf.1*30mg/ml, and that during the year they procured one and others according to the available quantities at the supplier.
"From 01.12 - 18.12. of the current year (18 days of December), a total of 513 boxes were delivered to the Institute of Oncology KCCG, and according to the supplier's announcement, during the next two days we expect an additional 120 boxes, as many as they are currently able to deliver. In the meantime, Montefarm is in constant contact with authorized importers and holders of permits for placing the mentioned drugs on the market, and we are doing everything that the legal framework allows us to, as soon as possible, provide additional quantities, about which we will inform you in a timely manner, just like the Institute of Oncology KCCG has done so far," reads the statement of Montefarma .
