The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MPNI) informed school principals that classes can be interrupted before Friday only in justified cases such as epidemics and natural disasters.

This was done after a large number of directors sent letters to that department regarding the suspension of classes on Wednesday, and on the occasion of the announced public class of the Education Union.

"Vijesti" has learned that some schools are considering the option of not having classes for the next three days, that is, of ending the second classification period already today, instead of Friday. Parents from Podgorica also reacted to that, according to "Vijesti" interlocutors.

In the Ministry's letter to the schools, which "Vijesti" had access to, it is written that they have not received any official decision on the termination of work, as stipulated by the current regulations.

"In accordance with the established school calendar and the work program of the institutions, Wednesday (27.12.2023) is a working day in all educational institutions in Montenegro. According to the school calendar and the work program of the institutions, it is planned that all students on that day and all other working days until the end of the second classification period, they have classes," the memo states.

The Ministry also said that in accordance with Article 64 of the Law on General Education, educational work can be interrupted only in particularly justified cases (epidemics, natural disasters, etc.).

"The decision to suspend educational work in the previously mentioned cases, for a duration of up to five days, is made by the director of the institution, and for more than five days by the Ministry, and for a private institution by the founder," the letter reads.

From that department, it was also announced that the minimum amount of work is prescribed by the current Regulation, during which teachers, professional assistants and teaching assistants are obliged to conduct classes regularly, according to the daily schedule of classes.

"During the teaching period, according to the mentioned regulation, the teacher is obliged to conduct the teaching (theoretical, practical, exercises), check the students' knowledge, evaluate and communicate the students' grades, keep the prescribed records in the class, participate in the work of professional bodies when, in accordance with the regulations, determines the individual and general success of students, cooperates with competent institutions that evaluate work, schools, teachers and students, conducts exams (supplementary, differential, class, remedial, final, graduation, practical, professional, master's, diploma and others), which they pass in accordance with the law...", the ministry's letter concludes.
