Losses on the Kolašin water supply network are still 70 percent, which means that the amount of water spilled or consumed is the same, which cannot be charged by the company Vodovod i kanalizija.
"There are several reasons for such a high percentage of non-revenue water," the executive director told "Vijesti". Milos Pekovic.
He explains that reducing network losses is a problem that cannot be solved in a short period of time, but, he claims, requires a detailed analysis of the network and continuity. According to Peković, a large number of water pipelines are over 40 years old, and one is even 90 years old. This, he explains, causes daily breakdowns in the primary, secondary and tertiary water supply.
According to Peković, the fact that in the previous period there was no will to install a measuring instrument at the water source that would measure the amount of captured water is devastating. He announces that the measuring instrument, which will finally show how much water is taken from the Mušovice Rijeka, will be installed at the beginning of next year.
"One of the reasons for huge losses is irrational consumption, a large number of consumers do not have installed water meters, which is why a huge amount of water is spilled and consumed without control. There is also a large number of illegal connections, excessive consumption of water that is not invoiced but calculated at a flat rate. Reducing losses on the network is a process that cannot be solved in a short time interval, but requires continuity and a detailed analysis of the network. "From May until today, the technical service has performed over 200 interventions to eliminate faults in the water supply network," says Peković.
He reminds that a new water supply network has been installed in the streets of Boško Rašović and Milivoj Bulatović, and the company Vodovod i Kanalizacija will install close to 100 water meters for users in those streets free of charge. Peković also says that 500 meters of the main asbestos pipeline was replaced with new polyethylene pipes, and new valves and fittings were installed in several main shafts.
"What is a big problem is the fact that in some settlements, the main pipelines cross over private plots, and in those settlements, measurements have shown that water consumption is not in line with the invoiced amount." In the future period, in cooperation with the local self-government unit, I will insist that the emphasis be placed on the relocation of pipelines in the mentioned settlements, and in this way we will additionally influence the reduction of losses on the network. I believe that a lot has been done in the period of eight months, but certainly not enough, because continuous longer work is needed", explains the Director of Water and Sewerage.
Peković says that there is no data on how much water is going to which region of Kolašin, because there are no measuring instruments. It is the same when it comes to the industrial zone, but Peković says that concrete mixers that use water from the city's water source for their work consume a maximum of 600 cubic meters per month.
