The Center for Civic Education (CGO) submitted to the Board of Directors of the University of Montenegro an initiative to stop the process of electing the candidate Radenko Šćekić to the position of director of the Institute of History, which is being considered today, until the competent authority determines whether Šćekić violated the rules of academic integrity.
"Previously, the CGE submitted to the UCG Ethics Committee the Initiative for reviewing the violation of academic integrity by Dr. Radenko Šćekić and attached extensive documentation indicating that one of Šćekić's papers was plagiarized, which was also registered by the UCG software. The interested academic was also aware of this. community, whose members contacted the CGO on that occasion," said the NGO.
They also remind that Šćekić previously, during 2018, already answered before the Court of Honor and that he was then issued a public reprimand, because he "expressed unargued and untrue views that harm the reputation of the academic staff and the integrity" of UCG.
"The CGE appreciates that it was the duty of the UCG Board of Directors to independently process such acts of non-academic behavior in the form of plagiarism by academic staff when there are justified suspicions and reasons for this, and that such persons should not be in management positions within the UCG. The CGE calls on the media to are following the session of the Board of Directors and how its members will individually decide on this issue, i.e. whether they will protect their own integrity and the reputation of the UCG or do the opposite," said the CGE.
