On the territory of Podgorica, there are currently active fires at the Jagoda watchtower, in the Radovče settlement, and at Trmanje and Vjeternik.
An auxiliary building burned down at the Jagoda watchtower, and there is currently a large fire in that area that is under control.
The police are also helping to extinguish the fire.
Teams of firefighters from the Protection Service are fighting a fire in the Radovče neighborhood of Podgorica, where the situation is critical, and three fire trucks and two utility companies are fighting the fire and protecting houses and cottages from the fire.
"A large fire front spread, it entered the dense pine forest," said the commander of the Capital City Protection Service, Andrija Čađenović.
Podgorica firefighters are assisted in extinguishing the fire by the Directorate for Emergency Situations.
The planes dropped two water bombs, and after replenishment they will operate again.
The fire at this location has been burning for several days, and the weather conditions are not helping the firefighters.
According to data from the Institute for Hydrometeorology and Seismology in Podgorica, the north-west wind is currently blowing at a speed of three meters per second.
In the fire at Trmanje, the fire is under control.
The fire at Vjeternik in Bjelopavlići is also active, and a firefighting team was sent there.
On the territory of Podgorica, 18 fires have been extinguished since seven o'clock this morning
Čađenović: There are enough knapsacks, citizens cannot successfully put out fires on their own without the presence of firefighters
There are enough knapsacks for the needs of the Protection Service, which everyone can see by visiting the equipment warehouse, said the commander of the Podgorica Protection Service Andrija Čađenović.
"Year after year, during the fire season, in many locations that are threatened by fire, knapsacks are taken by citizens for extinguishing needs, which in most cases are lost or damaged due to unprofessional handling or the like, so year after year, shortages of this type are created equipment," said Čađenović.
He adds that experiences from the field have shown that citizens cannot successfully put out fires on their own, without the presence of firefighters to assist, for objective reasons.
Some citizens complained that they could not get rucksacks from members of the Service to help put out the fire in Radovča.
"At all critical locations in the preparation period for the season, the expert teams of the Capital City Protection Service visited with the locals who for years have been helping to prevent fires and put them out when they unfortunately do occur, agreed on measures and actions that we will implement together in order to preserve In accordance with this, we also assigned several knapsacks to a gamekeeper and a householder in this place, whom we know will do everything to prevent fires and to successfully extinguish and use the entrusted equipment in case of need, as they have shown through years of cooperation. If the Protection Service met everyone who asked for expensive equipment in a couple of years, the costs for renewing and supplementing the equipment would unnecessarily reach enormous figures," said Čađenović.
He points out that the results on the ground and experiences show that the borrowed equipment is not used in a proper way and that extinguishing actions carried out independently by citizens do not give the desired results.
"This by no means means that the help of citizens is not important to us in many situations, but only if they follow our instructions and our guidelines, otherwise there is no success in extinguishing and injuries and damage to equipment are not uncommon. We would like to thank all the citizens who offered and provided help and of course especially those with whom we have had successful cooperation and mutual understanding for years," said Čađenović. He states that in the desire to help in every way and save houses and buildings, they often drive their vehicles through roads whose condition is extremely bad, and breakdowns and stoppages are sometimes inevitable in such situations.
"Such a case happened in Radovča the previous evening, with the fact that this stoppage did not prevent the crew from saving the houses threatened by the fire. This and the following two crews successfully extinguished the fire all night long. The fact that in 1.092 during the fire in the month of July alone, not a single permanently inhabited building was damaged, and the risk to people's lives was minimal," he pointed out.
An older fire-fighting vehicle intended for exactly this kind of terrain, and due to the large water tank used to extinguish the fire, the construction of the special vehicle itself does not have a spare wheel holder, so in case of tire damage, the wheel is brought by another vehicle and changed on the spot.
"Often, the crews are forced to perform this work in mud, rocks, inaccessible paths and other positions, because when a fire breaks out, we all have one desire, to extinguish it as soon as possible and save our property. Unfortunately, the condition of the road leading to that property and which the fire truck has to pass is often not taken into account, so these types of breakdowns are often inevitable. However, despite this, many of the mentioned fires were extinguished and damage was prevented, and we will try to continue in this way," adds Čađenović.
To all citizens who want to help and for whom it is important that there are fewer fires with all the damage, the firemen tell them to do their best to prevent a fire from happening and thus save themselves, their property and the environment.
To carry out preventive actions in a timely manner, mow and clean yards and the area around buildings.
"To report the fire in a timely manner with as much information as possible, for every person who causes a fire and endangers us to provide information to the authorities so that it is processed and many similar things, and that is the greatest help," said Čađenović.
When there is a fire, the work should be left to those who have been doing that work successfully for years, and efforts should be made to help them when they ask for it and when their instructions are followed.
