Patients being treated for lung cancer at the Special Hospital for Lung Diseases "Dr. Jovan Bulajić" Brezovik were left without the necessary medicine.
"Montefarm", the institution in charge of supplying public health institutions with medicines, replied to "Vijesti" yesterday that the cytostatic is in short supply due to production problems.
"When it comes to the cytostatic "pemetrexed", in mid-December 2023, we were informed by the authorized supplier that due to production problems it will not be available for a certain period of the year, about which we immediately informed the Ministry of Health, the Health Insurance Fund and institutions that they regularly express their need for the above-mentioned medicine", writes the answer of "Montefarma".
They said that, considering that a parallel drug was offered in this case, "Montefarm" has started the procurement process and expects the delivery of that replacement cytostatic soon.
"By purchasing the parallel that was offered in this case, and with the consent of the Ministry of Health, the shortage of "pemetrexed" for the Montenegrin market will be overcome," the answer reads.
Last month, the clinical center lacked the drug "Taxol", which is used in the treatment of patients with breast cancer.
According to the information at the time, the reason for the insufficient delivery of the medicine was with the supplier itself, which "Montefarm", which is issuing a tender for the procurement of medicines, could not influence.
