Our company is fully committed to environmental responsibility, sustainability and the well-being of the community in which we operate. We are aware of the recent environmental incident involving the discharge of wastewater from the lake below the former ore processing area of the Brskovo mine and its potential impact on the Rudnica and Tara rivers. Although we have noticed that this contamination is not in the concession area of our project, we offer support in identifying and removing the contamination.
Tara Resources also notes that the former activities of the Brskovo mine have never been fully remediated and that low-quality water continues to leak from the old mining tunnels into the Rudnica river. The new Brskovo mine is specially designed to contain all the polluted water from the previous mining area and uses a two-step water purification plant to treat any water discharged to the highest standards prescribed by Montenegrin laws and in accordance with international guidelines. Along with the planned Integrated Wastewater and Reservoir Water Management System, the water treatment plant will ensure that no surface or subsurface contamination occurs.
Comprehensive water quality monitoring programs will be shared with regulators and the public to demonstrate the effectiveness of planned water management measures. When it becomes operational, we are convinced that the water management system of the Brskovo mine will be an example of the best practice in managing the quality of industrial water in Montenegro.
Tara Resources looks forward to continuing transparent and proactive cooperation with the Government of Montenegro, the Municipality of Mojkovac, the local community and all stakeholders in order to advance the development of the Brskovo project, which has the potential to provide significant employment and economic benefits to the North of Montenegro, while ensuring the best international practice in environmental protection, including addressing environmental impacts resulting from previous mining activities.
