More than 40 applications were submitted by the citizens of Danilovgrad to the invitation of the "Kod" Organization for the allocation of household waste composting kits.

The plan is to distribute 20 such kits during the call. The public call was opened on January 15, and will last until the end of the month.

"We are pleasantly surprised by the response of the citizens. Already on the first day, we had over 40 applications for the allocation of composting kits," she told "Vijesta" Marija Iković, biologist and project coordinator of the "Kompostiraj.dg" project.

According to her, as part of the equipment, citizens will receive a specialized bin for composting and a mixture of effective micro-organisms of EM Japanese technology.

"Which speeds up the composting process so that after 10 days of mixing with the soil, we have completely recycled biological waste. With this project, 20 sets of equipment for composting will be awarded, and all interested citizens living in the territory of the Municipality of Danilovgrad have the right to apply by invitation," explained Iković.

As she added, since more interested people have already responded to the public call than the number of dishes they plan to distribute, the selection will be based on the answers given by the applicants to the questions included in the application form.

"Example questions are 'Why do applicants want to compost?' or 'Will they use the produced compost as organic fertilizer in their household?' We believe that through the answers we can get useful information and thus achieve the best result with this project, and show how organic waste can be managed in a sustainable way. We are pleasantly surprised by the motivation of citizens who are familiar with the composting process, and in this way they want to expand their knowledge and improve the composting process itself," said Iković.

As stated in the invitation, the goal of the project is to reduce the municipal waste of individual households by providing the necessary equipment for composting, i.e. recycling of organic waste, to educate households and businesses about the importance, methods and benefits of recycling organic waste and to develop environmental awareness among the general public about the need for recycling and reducing waste disposal at sanitary landfills.

"The organization 'KOD' has a developed green agenda in its activities, so environmental topics are certainly a significant part of it. We believe that, considering the feedback and interest of citizens so far, that this is only the starting point for spreading the idea of this project", said Iković.
