Data protection and privacy are the foundation of human rights in a digital society, announced the non-governmental organization (NGO) 35mm and called for the adoption of the law on the protection of personal data, which will transpose the provisions of the General Regulation on the Protection of Personal Data (GDPR).
In a statement on the occasion of January 35 - International Personal Data Protection Day, NGO 28mm emphasized that it is important to strengthen citizens' trust in the use of services provided by the state and that privacy and data protection in the digital environment are one of the pillars of that process.
"We use this opportunity to once again appeal for the final adoption of the law on the protection of personal data, in which the provisions of the GDPR will be transposed, where, in the age of technology in which personal data is a kind of "currency", we would be able to provide a level of personal data protection data held by the citizens of the European Union", the statement says.
The NGO 35mm said that Montenegro, although it has regulations regarding privacy and protection of personal data, has not yet adopted that law, the draft of which has been waiting for years to be on the "agenda".
"The adoption of that law is also one of the preconditions for adequate protection of personal data when we talk about harmonization with the Act on Digital Services and the Act on Digital Markets that follow us, which, among other things, also refer to the transparent submission and control of data," he states. in the announcement.
From the NGO 35mm, they said that the European Commission's report under chapter 10 highlighted the slow progress of Montenegro in the field of digital transformation.
According to them, the protection of data privacy is not only a technical issue, but also an essential issue of human dignity.
"In the context of digital transformation, the importance of this topic lies not only in the protection of information, but in ensuring the integrity, freedom and equality of every individual in the digital space," the statement said.
As stated, respect for digital rights is becoming crucial for the preservation of fundamental human rights in modern society.
