There is an increase in the trust of citizens in the institutions of Montenegro, especially in religious communities and the police.
Snežana Kaluđerović, senior legal advisor of the Center for Civic Education (CGO), said this during the press conference "Research of public opinion on the role of civil society in the process of democratization and Europeanization of Montenegro".
"It is interesting that none of the institutions has a rating of three in trust. The growth is constant, but not at the expected level. The health system is perceived as the most responsible for the welfare of society. The research showed that non-governmental organizations (NGOs), media and trade unions have the least responsibility for the welfare of society..." said Kaluđerović.
The senior legal adviser of the CGO pointed out that unemployment is "perceived as the biggest problem of Montenegrin society".
"Foundations, trade unions, media and professional associations are much more recognized as civil society actors," Kaluđerović assessed.
She also said that the majority of citizens have a positive opinion about the work of NGOs.
CGO Program Director Petar Đukanović said that "a fifth of citizens agree with the statement that NGOs are independent from the government, which is a decrease compared to 2021".
"There are perceptions that NGOs were critical of the previous government, and that this is less the case now. The majority of citizens agree that NGOs fight for the rights of citizens. The number of those who believe that NGOs serve to fulfill the personal goals of individuals is decreasing." Djukanovic said.
He said that 47% of slightly more than a thousand citizens believe that NGOs have a great influence on improving the situation in Montenegro.
Đukanović pointed out that the research results showed that the cooperation between the Government of Montenegro and NGOs is very satisfactory.
During the conference, it was also said that "almost a fifth of respondents believe that Montenegro will never become a member of the European Union (EU)".
Data collection for the needs of CGO was done by Damar agency. "The research is part of the CSO project in Montenegro - from basic services to policy formulation - M'BASE, which is carried out by the Center for Civic Education (CGO), in partnership with the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), the NGO Center for the Protection and Study of Birds of Montenegro (CZIP) and the NGO Politikon network, in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of European Affairs of the Government of Montenegro. The project is financed by the European Union and co-financed by the Ministry of Public Administration," the CGE announced.
