In a world that relies more and more on digital media and technologies, every individual should be able to critically evaluate information, recognize fake news and understand how to protect their data on the Internet, said the Ministry of Culture and Media (MKM).
The department said that International Safer Internet Day is an opportunity to look at the challenges people face in the digital space and promote responsible behavior on the Internet.
As the Ministry pointed out, media literacy plays a key role in promoting safe and responsible online behavior.
According to them, in a world that relies more and more on digital media and technologies, it is important that every individual, regardless of age, be able to critically evaluate the information they consume, recognize fake news and understand how to protect their data on the Internet.
"It is the basis of media literacy - the ability to recognize, analyze and evaluate information that comes through different media channels," the Ministry pointed out.
They pointed out that the Media Strategy, which they recently adopted, emphasizes the strengthening of media literacy among citizens and represents a comprehensive framework for the promotion of critical thinking, the development of digital skills and the prevention of digital violence.
That strategic document, as explained by the Ministry, foresees a set of activities aimed at strengthening media literacy, such as the formation of the National Council for Media Literacy in order to establish systematic planning and monitoring of activities to improve media literacy.
"We have foreseen the analysis of the level of media literacy by target groups, the development of a multi-year plan, training for decision-makers and the media, and the evaluation of programs in schools," said the Ministry.
As they added, initiatives are planned for the introduction of the media literacy course in all high schools, modules at the Faculty of Philology and Philosophy, and training for teachers.
"An analysis of the needs for the training of researchers in media literacy in higher education institutions is planned," the announcement states.
It is emphasized that the Ministry is continuously working with relevant institutions to implement best practices to strengthen the resilience of digital infrastructure and prevent cyber attacks.
"With joint engagement and responsible behavior, we can create an internet that is not only safe, inclusive and inspiring for everyone, but also one of the most important tools for information, communication and social development", said the Ministry of Culture and Media.
As they said, through continuous investment in media literacy, people can be empowered to be critical thinkers and active participants in the digital world.
"This is the only way we can realize the full potential of the Internet as a space where we express ourselves freely, exchange ideas and build a better future", concluded the Ministry.
