The European Movement in Montenegro, the non-governmental organization (NGO) 35 mm and the Center for Monitoring and Research (CeMI) called on the president of the country, Jakov Milatović, the prime minister, Milojko Spajić, and other officials to strongly and unequivocally condemn the uncivilized act of burning the Andrej Nikolaidis doll.
Those NGOs also called on the local authorities in Herceg Novi to urgently issue a public apology to Nikolaidis.
The European Movement, NGO 35 mm and CeMI announced that they strongly condemn the "shameful attack" by the local authorities of Herceg Novi and "their anti-cultural thugs" on Nikolaidis.
"Today the local authorities of Herceg Novi are practicing burning the effigy of a distinguished intellectual and writer, who is the winner of the biggest Montenegrin and European awards, and tomorrow they will probably continue to develop the practices of their ideological role models from Germany in the 1930s," the announcement says.
From the European Movement, NGO 35mm and CeMI, they said that Nikolaidis is not bothered by the fact that he only defends civil Montenegro and condemns Greater Serbian nationalism, but that he has become one of the significant symbols of the fight against fascism in the country and the entire region.
Those NGOs said that this is why "fascism, intoxicated with power, wants to burn Nikolaidis, because in the absence of intellectual and educational capacities, it always uses force and primitivism".
"Unfortunately, today the government of Herceg Novi and the local heirs of the black shirts encouraged by their ideological injections, who played a bloody round on the Herceg Novi square in World War II, are not alone in their efforts to silence the bearers of free thoughts, but fascism uses the same methods throughout the region." , the statement said.
It is said that this is why "similar regional satraps" burned the dolls of Anto Tomić in Imotski and Martina Mlinarević in Mostar.
"Fascism needs fire. Today dolls, tomorrow houses and people in them," the announcement says.
From the European Movement, NGO 35mm and CeMI stated in a statement that they congratulate a significant part of the authorities at the local and republic level for "illuminating" the path to the European Union (EU), with a torch in the form of a burning figure of Nikolaidis.
"We believe that our international partners, primarily from the EU, will be delighted with the idea of publicly calling for the lynching of a respected writer, intellectual and journalist in the 21st century," said those NGOs.
They said that they hope that Milatović, Spajić and other officials really care about Montenegro in the EU, based on anti-fascist ideas and human rights, and above all that they see the country as a normal and civilized European society.
"Therefore, the European Movement in Montenegro, NGO 35mm and CeMI call on the President of Montenegro, the Prime Minister and other officials to strongly and unequivocally condemn this uncivilized act, and the local authorities in Herceg Novi to urgently issue a public apology to Nikolaidis", it is stated in announcement.
