The padlock that was put on the "Cadmus cineplex" cinema a year ago, since there have been no film screenings in Budva, could be removed after the company "Lovćen film" approached the president of the Municipal Assembly Nikola Jovanovic to urgently include the current situation in the agenda of the next parliamentary session and to present the situation and possibilities of opening a cinema to the assembly.
"'We at 'Lovćen Film' believe that an agreement that has already been reached can be implemented very easily and with minimal effort. If the statement that the Municipality functions without problems is correct, then the agreement reached should be implemented without problems, which has been waiting for implementation for a year while the cinema is collapsing and losing value every day", they stated in a letter from the company that managed the cinema.
The company "Lovćen film" closed the cinema at the beginning of February last year, because no agreement was reached with the municipality. At the beginning of March last year, a meeting was organized which was chaired by the President of the Municipality Milo Bozovic. Then he practically reached an agreement for "Lovćen film" to continue managing the cinema, but under the conditions that the local administration put on the table, which was accepted by the other side. However, nothing has been done since then. In the meantime, the local administration is blocked by the detention of Božović, who has been in the Spuška cell for 11 months.
"We are contacting you regarding the state of the cinema and our previous discussions during 2023. Appreciating the current situation, as well as the absence of activities related to this project, we ask that you accept our proposal for a statement from the members of SO Budva about the information that we from 'Lovćen film' would prepare independently or jointly with your competent secretariats for the next first session. The current situation where there is no reaction from the Municipality, where the competent services did not implement the agreement from the meeting from March last year where you personally attended and where, despite the agreement, the councilors never made a statement on this issue, is unsustainable legally, financially, and in general . The city does not have a cinema solely because of negligence, inattention and inactivity, and we believe that this situation needs to be changed urgently", they stated in a letter to Jovanović from "Lovćen Filma".
They point out that if Jovanović thinks that their proposal is unacceptable, and that the subject of a cinema is not important for the city or that it is not necessary for the city to have its own cinema even though he paid for it, "Lovćen film" states that they will initiate the procedure for candidacy on this point. for the session of the Budva Municipality Assembly.
"Lovćen Filma" told "Vijesti" that during the previous year several small meetings were held with representatives of the local administration in order to achieve the agreement from March last year, and to end all disputes, to renovate the cinema at the expense of "Lovćen Filma". ” and to start work immediately.
"We pointed out to the Municipality of Budva that due to inaction, all equipment is endangered and rapidly deteriorating, and that Lovćen Film has invested over 1,5 million euros in that project to date. We also pointed out to the president of the Budva Municipal Council at meetings and through letters that the biggest losers are the citizens, because every day children from Budva go by bus to Podgorica to watch movies, and in their own town they can do it either for free, for some movies, or at much lower prices than those children they pay for trips to Podgorica", the company states.
The municipality and the "Budva Cineplex" consortium, which consisted of the companies "Lovćen film" and "Art vista", concluded a basic contract in 2014, which stipulated that the local government annually subsidizes the project with 199.000 euros. Under the contract, space in the TQ Plaza complex was ceded for 20 years. However, the two parties initiated several court cases against each other and filed criminal charges against each other.
"Lovćen film" is ready, as told to the News, if, for political or any other reasons, the Municipality of Budva does not want to continue the partnership with "Lovćen film" DOO, in that case the Municipality of Budva will immediately take over its own space and equipment and open independently cinema without any hindrance from that company.
