The Head of the Department for Analysis and Processing of Seismological Data, Milena Tomanović, said that the earthquake of 5,4 degrees Richter was followed by 30 subsequent earthquakes from 3,5 degrees Richter to one or 1,5 degrees Richter.
She said that there are no reports from the field regarding whether more material damage was caused.
"This is an earthquake that happened in the border area of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is the seismogenic zone of Bileća and Piva," said Tomanović at the press conference organized by the Institute for Hydrometeorology and Seismology (ZHMS) after this morning's earthquake.
An earthquake measuring 5,4 on the Richter scale shook the territory of Montenegro in four hours and six minutes.
ZHMS announced that the epicenter was five kilometers from the town of Čarađe in the municipality of Nikšić. The focal point was at a depth of 14 kilometers.
Speaking about subsequent earthquakes, Tomanović pointed out that they cannot predict whether a new earthquake of the same strength or more might occur.
"After the main shock, we had 30 aftershocks, ranging in magnitude from 3,5 to one or 1,5 degrees," she said, adding that this morning's series of earthquakes showed that there was a reawakening of seismic activity.
