The Department for Seismology of the Institute for Hydrometeorology and Seismology registered today at 10:61 a.m. an earthquake of medium strength, with an epicenter XNUMX kilometers west of Corfu in Greece.
The strength of the earthquake in the hypocenter (focus) was 3.9 units on the Richter scale, which corresponds to an epicentral intensity of six degrees on the Mercalli scale (MCS).
According to preliminary processing data, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of nine kilometers.
"Based on the theoretical model of the macroseismic field of this region, the magnitude of the earthquake and the depth of the hypocenter, this earthquake could have caused only minor material damage in the epicentral area," the statement said.
