Gender equality is a key area for further cooperation between UNDP and the Parliament of Montenegro, it was announced at the meeting of the Vice President of the Parliament Zdenka Popović and the Deputy Director of the UNDP Regional Office for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States Nik Hartman.
Hartman, as announced by the Assembly, pointed out that the establishment of institutions that are responsible for gender equality and promoting the active participation of women in public life is of key importance for every society.
"UNDP is ready to provide support in the application of gender equality standards through all aspects of institutional work," emphasized Hartman.
He said that UNDP is committed to supporting women who want to be actively involved in politics and civil society organizations.
Popović said that she was satisfied with the visit of the UNDP delegation headed by Hartman and the exceptional cooperation that Montenegro is achieving with that organization.
She pointed out that UNDP is a reliable and active partner in the implementation of numerous projects.
Popović, as stated, presented in detail the functioning and significance of the formation of the Women's Club, whose members come from the parliamentary opposition and the majority.
"She emphasized that the club operates on the principle of co-presidency, currently has four co-presidents, and that all decisions are made by consensus," the statement said.
Popović pointed out that the adoption and implementation of laws related to gender equality, media laws, laws in the area of prevention of online violence against women are important, in order to ensure that government policies and practices promote gender equality in a comprehensive way.
