Environmental and water inspectors checked a stain on Lake Skadar that is suspected to originate from oil derivatives, the Directorate for Inspection Affairs (UIP) announced, adding that the sample was sent for analysis to the Hydrometeorological Institute.
The UIP said that environmental and water inspectors carried out a field inspection of the surface waters of the lake on Wednesday, after being informed by the assistant director that a stain/impurity carried by the water current appeared on Lake Skadar.
As it is added, they controlled the site under the bridge of Tanki rt and the right branch of the mouth of Morača into the lake.
It is stated that they controlled the water in cooperation with the employed supervisors of the Skadar Lake National Park.
"The field control carried out by the vessel of the Lake Skadar National Park (NPSJ) revealed a stain with unspecified traces of admixture of organic material, pollen and dust, and, as is suspected, waste water," the statement says.
The UIP said that the stain is several hundred meters long and has different widths, ranging from five to six meters, and in some places the width is several tens of meters.
"With a direct inspection on the spot, it cannot be claimed with certainty that it is oil derivatives, therefore, in cooperation with the Hydrometeorological Institute, a sample was taken in order to perform the necessary analyses," the statement of the UIP states.
They stated that the situation on the ground will be closely monitored in cooperation with the NPSJ service, and that the public will be informed in a timely manner of all subsequent findings.
