Montenegro and Italy have exceptional opportunities for cooperation in the field of medicine and medical sciences, and through the agreed modalities they will additionally use the offered ways of establishing European standards in the Montenegrin health system, especially in those areas where Italy has the highest level of excellence.
This is the conclusion of the three-day visit to Italy by the Government delegation, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister for Health Srdjan Pavićević and the Minister of Health Vojislav Šimun.
The Ministry of Health announced that during the first day of the visit, Pavićević and Šimun spoke with the Minister of Health of Italy, Oracio Skalići.
As announced, it was agreed to continue cooperation through the PHASE project, within which the participation of Montenegrin representatives at the symposium in Catania is foreseen.
The Ministry of Health said that the development of digital services in healthcare will be in particular focus.
They explained that Italy, through normative and substantive effects, is recognized as a country with a high degree of compliance and successful application of the Law on Limiting the Use of Tobacco Products.
As it was added, support was offered to Montenegro for the implementation of best practices in that area as well.
It was reported that Skalić promised his colleagues from Montenegro help when applying for projects within the EU4Health program, which Šimun signed at the beginning of the year in Brussels and through which our health system will be able to use significant financial resources in accordance with the applications.
"The organ transplantation program and professional assistance through educational visits by Italian doctors and work at the Clinical Center of Montenegro are also one of the strategically considered directions of action," the announcement says.
It is stated that during the meeting, the readiness of university and medical centers in Italy for professional training and exchange, both of students and specialist and subspecialist doctors for special expertise that will be applied in Montenegrin health institutions, was particularly emphasized.
The Ministry said that the Montenegrin delegation also visited the Mejer University Clinic in the Tuscany region, adding that it is a highly specialized pediatric institution and a national reference center for this area.
The management of the hospital, as it is added, introduced colleagues from Montenegro to high standards in the treatment of the youngest patients, as well as to the rich experience they have in the field of pediatric rheumatology, allergology and immunology.
"It has been agreed to continue cooperation with this clinic in such a way that a certain number of pediatric patients will be referred to the Meyer clinic for treatment for certain conditions and in agreement with doctors from the Institute of Children's Diseases," the statement added.
As stated, doctors from that institution will offer special support and expertise to their Montenegrin colleagues during the formation of the Human Milk Bank, which, as the Ministry said, will be formed as part of the Clinical Center.
The Ministry said that the Montenegrin delegation visited the San Rafaele, San Donato-Arezo hospitals, as well as the Vicenza San Bortolo medical center.
