The International Police Organization (IPO) announced today that it strongly condemns the attack on MP Maja Vukićević of the Democratic People's Party (DNP).
"Individuals must understand that they must be sanctioned for uttering inappropriate words and insults. In view of the recent unfortunate events, we offer our full support to our Baranka Maja Vukićević. We believe that such attacks are inadmissible, regardless of the individual's political affiliation," it is emphasized in the announcement of the IPO signed by Momčilo Šćekić, the executive director of the IPO.
The IPO added that they especially emphasize that the IPO condemns such and similar attacks.
"Lynching on social networks is unacceptable and against the principles of the Charter of the United Nations. Threatening the safety of an individual, such as the case of respected MP Maja Vukićević, is unacceptable for us. Political discussions are legitimate, but attacks on personality are not. Therefore, we call on all relevant actors to refrain from such inappropriate actions, and to focus on constructive and reasoned discussion. We will always support freedom of speech and opinion regardless of political affiliation and political beliefs of individuals and strongly oppose any form of violence," the IPO statement reads.
