Ivan Vukčević is the recipient of the British Empire Medal of Honor, which was presented to him on behalf of King Charles III by the Ambassador of Great Britain to Montenegro, Don McCann, at a ceremony in the British residence in Podgorica.
This was announced by the British Embassy in Podgorica.
"Ivan Vukčević, the political affairs officer of the embassy, received this prestigious award for his work on improving relations between Montenegro and the United Kingdom in the previous 17 years of his work as part of this mission. Ivan Vukčević is the first Montenegrin citizen to be honored by King Charles." it is emphasized in the announcement.
"It was my privilege to present Ivan Vukčević with the British Empire Medal. Ivan's dedication and exemplary work in public administration embodies the qualities that this award system promotes. His dedication to fostering relations between the United Kingdom and Montenegro is priceless, and this medal is a testimony to his exceptional contribution " McCann said.
After the award, Vukčević addressed the crowd and said that he was honored and grateful for this recognition, as well as for the opportunity to contribute to the strengthening of relations between the United Kingdom and Montenegro.
The British Embassy in Podgorica said that this award was established by the British King George V in the first half of the 20th century.
"The medal was originally intended only for British nationals and residents of former colonies, but since 1992 it has also been awarded to foreign nationals who have distinguished themselves in other fields, with special merit for the improvement of bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and other countries. The decision on who actually receives this the honor is brought by a special committee, which consists of high-ranking civil servants and others who are not part of the public administration. The recommendations of the committee then go to the British Prime Minister, and then to the King himself, who awards them," concludes the announcement of the British Embassy in Podgorica.
