At the proposal of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, the Government of Montenegro passed the Decision on the formation of the Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights announced.
Acting Director of the Directorate for Protection and Equality of Persons with Disabilities, Irena Rakočević, announced that this Council will consist of representatives of all relevant institutions and five members of non-governmental organizations that deal with the rights of persons with disabilities.
"It is planned that the focus of the Council's work will be the improvement of the interdepartmental and multidisciplinary approach in promotion and prevention, as well as the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. Also, special attention will be paid to future cooperation with non-governmental organizations, state administration bodies, and local administration in the process of protection persons with disabilities," said Rakočević.
The Ministry of Human and Minority Rights pointed out that the formation of the Council stems from the need to improve the position of persons with disabilities through a synchronized and systemically responsible approach and respond to all obstacles that prevent various forms of discrimination, with an emphasis on multiple intersectional discrimination, so that persons with disabilities in Montenegro could equally enjoy human rights and be provided with access to all the rights they have in accordance with international standards and national regulations.
