Students of Media Studies and Journalism, who will dedicate themselves to this important profession and become key actors in socio-political events, should keep their voice and continuously contribute to society by communicating the truth during their work.
This was announced by the Minister of Culture and Media, Tamara Vujović, who today visited the students of Media Studies and Journalism at the Faculty of Political Sciences on the occasion of April 4, Student Day, PR Center reports.
The Minister pointed out that today they wanted to be present with the students during their day in order to show them the exceptional importance they attach to all the policies of that department.
"We are pleased with the great interest in the Faculty of Political Sciences and in the course of Media Studies and Journalism. So we expect one wealth and even greater media pluralism when young people graduate from this faculty," said Vujović.
Speaking about the cooperation with the academic community, Vujović pointed out that within the Media Strategy they have foreseen numerous activities where she will be their partner.
"One of the most important activities on which we will work together is the formation of a Network for the fight against hate speech, online harassment and misinformation, where we expect the University to be one of the key partners of this body, which will, together with the editors-in-chief and decision-makers, reflect on the media atmosphere in Montenegro Gori also targets media that produce misinformation and hate speech," stated Vujović.
She pointed out that they expect all stakeholders from the Network to make a maximal contribution so that Montenegro lives in a healthy media environment.
"Many measures and activities related to the improvement of the journalistic profession are found in the laws themselves. If we establish in the law that all 15 local public broadcasters will have to have stable, sustainable and reliable funding every year from the budget of local governments, then we know that these journalists will receive their salaries regularly, that these salaries will be able to be better and therefore their working conditions will be better," Vujović said.
Speaking about the safety of journalists, Vujović said that in the media laws and through the Media Strategy, they provided for the formation of a quick and prompt reaction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor's Office and the judiciary in case of attacks on journalists.
"We work in several fields so that all media employees can make a full contribution and do their work freely and responsibly," said Vujović.
She said that during today's meeting with the students, they listened to their dilemmas and challenges related to the journalistic profession.
"Some of those questions are whether he will have a safe environment, that is, a safe atmosphere for his work, what will society be like according to a brave investigative journalist, whether he will have to fear for his life or property with all the risks of his job. Students were also interested in working conditions in the media, wages, but also in unfair competition in the sense of those who are studying for the profession of journalists, who have fundamental knowledge and education in relation to the flood of influencers and everything that the digital world brings us," she said. is Vujović.
She told the students to enjoy today, as well as all student days.
The Director of the Directorate for Media in the Ministry of Culture and Media, Neđeljko Rudović, said that he told the students today that Montenegro needs professional and responsible journalism, and that the Faculty of Political Sciences and the Department of Media Studies and Journalism have people who will be in the near future bearers of an important role.
"We talked with the students about the importance of journalism, that is, about the duties that every journalist should be aware of. It is important for young journalists to be aware of their opportunities, but also their responsibilities," said Rudović.
He said that they showed the students what the new solutions look like in the three media laws that the Ministry of Culture and Media is preparing for the soon to be declared by the Government and sent to the Parliament for consideration and adoption.
Representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Media previously met with the Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences, Boris Vukićević.
