If the regional road Mojkovac - Đurđevića Tara continues to be closed to traffic, tourism in several municipalities will suffer enormous damage.
This was told to "Vijesta" by the owners of tourism and hospitality facilities next to that road, explaining that there is still a little left until the start of the preseason. They say that they expect that, although work on the permanent rehabilitation of that road is still ongoing, the road will soon be open to tourists during the day.
Otherwise, they say, they have nothing to expect from the upcoming tourist summer, nor the period of the spring months when rafting tours begin.
Earlier it was announced that about 80 or 90 percent of guests who visit Mojkovac come exclusively for that reason or by that route. A large number of tourists come for rafting, but also to visit the bridge on Tara. A large number of activities of Kolašin and Žabljak tourist agencies are also related to that region.
Rehabilitation of the Sokolovina landslide on that road began at the end of November last year. As the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs said then Filip Radulović, the works will be completed by October this year and will solve one of the long-standing problems. The value of the project is 10,6 million euros, and the rehabilitation of the unstable slope and the construction of a gallery in the length of some 400 meters are planned.
Those who make a living from tourism in that part of the Mojkovac municipality remind that the decision that the Traffic Administration issued to the contractor last year, which gave approval for the total suspension of traffic on that regional road, is still in force.
By the same decision, the company "Inermost" from Podgorica, which performs the works, is obliged to allow vehicles that transport children to school and vice versa, fire engines and ambulances to pass.
The Mojkovac Tourist Organization (TO) expects that the authorities will soon allow other vehicles to pass on the road, at least for a few hours a day. Director TO Radonja Vuković says that the demands of the tourism workers were communicated to the leaders of the Transport Administration at a recent meeting.
"We have a lot of understanding for the tourism workers, but we are extremely satisfied that a permanent solution to the decades-long problems on that road has finally begun. I remind you that since 2015, the road has never been officially open to traffic, nor safe. At a recent meeting, tourism officials requested that the road be opened soon from 12 to 15 p.m. I expect understanding for that initiative. However, we also bear in mind the need to ensure the safety of road users," said Vuković to "Vijesta".
He reminds us of the importance of traffic for tourism, but, as he says, we must not forget the importance of permanently solving critical points. Vuković also says that the start of the works was postponed last year, because the summer season was extended, so the owners of tourist facilities were met.
