The Media Union of Montenegro (SMCG) welcomed the latest move by Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković and the introduction of mandatory instructions to prosecutors in cases of attacks on journalists and media organizations.
"We would like to remind you that, at a recent meeting with Marković, the Media Syndicate emphasized the introduction of certain instructions for the work of prosecutors when it comes to cases involving threats to the safety of journalists, the aim of which is to intensify and unify their work. Such solutions have existed for some time in states of the region and have proven to be effective. It is commendable that cooperation with the Commission for Monitoring Investigations of Attacks on Journalists has been institutionalized in this way, which will greatly increase the effects of its work," the statement said.

They said that SMCG, as an organization that "almost since its inception has focused on the safety of journalists", also commends the intention of the prosecution to improve communication with media organizations, which was announced to be resolved by appointing a contact person in the prosecution for SMCG and other organizations. which deal with these issues.
"In this way, we believe that the transparency of the prosecution organization, which until now has often been questionable, will be significantly improved," the statement added.
They state that since the beginning of the year, SMCG has registered as many as eight incidents in which the victims were journalists and other media workers.
