The fight for a better position of media and cultural workers remains our priority
Only a satisfied worker brings general social progress, Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujović said.
"On the first of May, we celebrate the workers who throughout history have worked dedicatedly, honestly, and diligently, and you who work today to build a society with a dignified life. However, as long as there are unemployed people, there are reasons for the dissatisfaction of those who feel that their rights have been violated, or they feel humiliated, socially excluded," she said.
"Today, we remind you of the importance of workers' struggle for fair working conditions, dignified wages and workplace safety," Vujović added. She reminded that with the Branch collective agreement for the field of culture, which entered into force in March 2023, for the first time since 2016, the wages of employees in that field were significantly increased. She added that the establishment of the new representative Free Trade Union of Culture of Montenegro, which was founded in April of this year, testifies that cultural employees are engaged in creating better conditions for their work.
Vujović pointed out that with the new General Collective Agreement, media employees who work on Sundays received increased daily wages, but that her department is concerned that their wages are still below average.
"The fight for a better position of media and cultural workers remains our priority and obligation. Only through solidary, united, equal and collegial action can we achieve a common goal and fight for a better and fairer society. The right to work, fair conditions and a dignified life is a condition for any progress and betterment, and the responsibility is on all of us," said the minister.

He added that through painstaking work in the last few years, Democratic Montenegro "has fought for higher quality and better living conditions for all members of our society, and we will not stop there".
"After decades of devastation of our resources, Montenegro has set out on a path of prosperity that promises a brighter future. This requires time and patience, and we have it, because we are driven by the desire to create a country from Montenegro, from which young people will not leave, but Thanks to our sacrifices in the past, the citizens of Montenegro have felt: higher salaries, higher pensions, higher old-age benefits, returned benefits to mothers, severance pay for workers in the mining and metal industry, child allowances for all children up to the age of 18, free textbooks for all basic classes and we will not stop there," Bogdanović said.

Borovinić Bojović: With dedicated work, we will certainly reach our goals
The President of the Assembly of the Capital City, Jelena Borovinić Bojović, congratulated May 1, Labor Day.
"On May 1st, I would like to draw attention to the extraordinary importance and influence that work, effort and commitment have on the development and prosperity of our society, as well as on the quality of our personal lives. I am deeply convinced that without hard work there is not and cannot be no progress either on a personal or social level. And vice versa, whoever works diligently will overcome obstacles and reach their goal. It is extremely important that we can state that work is still going on in Podgorica and Montenegro now it values more than it was the case a year ago, which has its numerical expression through the increase in the value of wages This means that with dedicated work we will definitely reach the goals that are at the end of the road," said Borovinić Bojović.
Vučinić: Old system errors still exist
Zemployed people in Montenegro live more on some expectation of a better tomorrow than on real financial power and their earnings. Political changes have brought new circumstances, but unfortunately the old systemic errors still exist, said the president of the Workers' Party, Maksim Vučinić.
"The state apparatus must be set up in such a way that it itself is the protection of social justice, and that is the only way to guarantee an adequate social contract in all political circumstances in the country. If we take the statistics into account, we come to a paradoxical situation. According to research, Montenegro currently lacks 25.000 workers primarily from tourism and agriculture, i.e. strategic branches of the Montenegrin economy, as well as the construction industry. On the other hand, the percentage of unemployed is at a significant level. This is a significant parameter of the disorder of the system, i.e. the strategic indecision of decision-makers for many years." , said Vučinić.
He added that there is no consensus on many issues of the social contract in the country between the government, trade unions, and the economy.
"Non-working Sunday, which is the point of contention, does not seem to be a permanent solution, but the subject of the pre-election campaign and political exaggeration. The position of the Workers' Party on this is quite clear. Under these circumstances and underdeveloped institutions in the country, which are not capable of guaranteeing a worker or an employee in sales a day off on Sundays, we are strongly opposed to the abolition of this type of protection of that right. In the end, the talk about seven-hour working hours in a country where institutions cannot regulate the area of overtime, while labor productivity is not at an enviable level, sounds a bit too ambitious to respect primarily the Labor Law and collective agreements. As long as we have institutions that are in a condition to fully apply the existing laws and agreements, then we can talk about some more perfect models of employer-employee relations and labor associations in the fight for their rights. With sincere faith in a better future in this country, I congratulate May 1, International Labor Day," concluded Vučinić.
Popović: A holiday that requires social action and reaction
The Vice-President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Zdenka Popović, congratulated the citizens on May 1 - International Labor Day.

Today, it is our duty to keep a non-working week and provide a fair weekly rest for all employees and their families Popović said.

The President of the SO Bar Branislav Nenezić congratulated the International Labor Day.
"Today, more than ever, we are witnessing that it is necessary to further affirm the principles of sustainable development, as the only true path to which a civil society should strive, because in this way we protect the rights of all working people to work in dignified conditions and the right to an equal quality of life. We must be honest, and clearly say that we have not done enough, and that we must make additional efforts to create conditions for workers' rights to be respected at every place in the work processes and to improve the conditions in which the people who build this country work and give them a real chance to improve their standard of living," said Nenezić.
