The President of the Municipal Assembly (SO) of Nikšić, Nemanja Vuković, with representatives of the Army of Montenegro and the Nikšić Organization of National Liberation War Fighters (OBNOR) on the occasion of May 9, the Day of Victory over Fascism and the Day of Europe, laid a wreath at the monument to the fallen fighters under Trebjes. As he said, May 9 is an eternal symbol of victory over the greatest evil that threatened humanity.
"But also a symbol of hope that together we can build the European future. We have a duty to oppose all systems based on totalitarianism and intolerance, because I believe that this is the only way we can build our European perspective, a society of equal opportunities and a state of equal rights," Vuković said. .
He pointed out that the European Union has no alternative, that Montenegro's European path is "the only path our country should follow" and that he believes that Montenegro will soon become a member of the EU.
The president of OBNOR Nikšić, Tomislav Bulajić, reminded that 11.000 fighters from the Nikšić region participated in the Second World War.
"1.516 of them died as fighters, and 665 as victims of fascist terror. Montenegro gave 252 national heroes, of which 48 are from Nikšić. Nikšić paid back to Montenegro and Yugoslavia. "Our fighters fell equally fighting for Yugoslavia and equally for Montenegro", said Bulajić.
The delegation of the Nikšić Municipal Committee of the Yugoslav Communist Party of Montenegro (JKPCG) also laid flowers on the monument under Trebjes. Secretary of the Committee, Jovan Vujović, said that Trebjesa is a silent witness of history, and that "Trebješka Poljana is often bathed in blood".
"Today, who knows how many times, we stand in front of this monument as a symbol of our people's fight against a double enemy - the fascist invaders and their Quisling helpers," said Vujović and expressed the hope that in the future everyone will fight more organized and massively for a happier future for all generations and generations. .
