The divisions sown in the Second World War still haven't disappeared from our territory. They are visible and are still shown throughout the region. I believe that in the coming period, we will speak more openly about the Second World War, our divisions and many misfortunes without censorship and bans. The truth will be heard much better and the truth will reconcile us. Mutual reconciliation will allow us to celebrate Victory Day more sincerely and heartily", said the Chief of Staff of the President of the Municipality of Pljevlja and Councilor Nova Vujo Grbović, at the May 9 Victory over Fascism Day commemoration in front of the monument on Stražica in Pljevlja.
In front of the Municipality of Pljevlja, Grbović laid a wreath for fallen fighters in the fight against fascism, together with the delegation of OBNOR 1941-1945, SNP of the United Montenegro and Democrats.
An hour later, wreaths were laid by the delegations of UBNOR and anti-fascists, Bosniak Party, Social Democrats, DPS and the group of citizens "November 20".
The head of the municipal president's office said that "today we are marking 79 years since the victory over fascism and the defeat of those who are responsible for the death of several tens of millions of inhabitants in Europe".
"It is rightly said that today is the day of victory. On this day, the major military conflicts on the territory of Europe in the Second World War ended. The Second World War did not end, but on May 9, 1945, Russian Marshal Zhukov ratified the German capitulation agreement on behalf of the Allies. During the Second World War, strong resistance was offered to the occupiers on our premises. Our people showed great courage and determination in the fight, making great sacrifices, to defeat the German and Italian occupiers. "Unfortunately, during the Second World War, there were ideological divisions and a fratricidal war in our region, fratricidal quarrels led to great suffering," said Grbović.
He said that we should remember all the victims with greater respect.
"We must not forget the victims of the Second World War. We will honor all those who died in the resistance forces and all those who died in the occupying reprisals. We will not share them! "I believe that the members of both anti-fascist movements had the intention to defeat the occupier and bring freedom to their people," Grbović said.
The honorary president of OBNOR, Vidoje Despotović, reminded her of the importance of May 9.
"The Second World War in which 61 countries with 1,1 billion citizens participated. 70 million citizens died in the war, including about three million soldiers. Yugoslavia lost about 1.7 million citizens and soldiers, and Montenegro 18.5 thousand citizens and soldiers, and Pljevlja 2.445 of which 567 soldiers. This monument was erected in honor and permanent memory of those who died for the liberation, but it has not yet been completed. We expect the municipality to finish the inner part of the monument year by year and continue with the repair of the monument," said Despotović.
At the second meeting, the president of Pljevlja UBNOR and anti-fascist Goran Čavić said that "today in Pljevlje we have people who are promoters of evil, inter-ethnic and inter-religious hatred, people who are taking us back to the wars of the nineties and some earlier ones, whose minds have not moved away from the end of the twentieth century on the territory of the former Yugoslavia".
"Today in Pljevlje, members of some minority nations and Montenegrins are second class citizens. Today we have to fight again, for our human rights, because someone once again decided to ethically clean Pljevlja again. We have to because it is anti-fascism," said Čavić.
He said that he received a large number of calls and messages from people who wanted to come to this rally, but were not allowed. "Because it will be taken as a bad thing because in the company or wherever they are, they will be marked and put on some kind of blacklist. They apologized because this event was not included in the time of the break, and otherwise they are not allowed to come. Today, respected anti-fascists of Pljevlja, there are people in Pljevlja who are not free and who have to hide their nationality. That's a fact, and we wouldn't be who we are today if we didn't tell the truth straight to the face. Let those who find themselves in this story know that it is intended for them as well as for the international public. Also, let them know that bad times always came and that the good people of Pljevlja survived them and that Pljevlja remained what it is, a city of good people, workers, a civilized city of inter-ethnic and religious harmony, and we will remember all this as some ancient times. . And we will fight for it. And let's never forget that freedom is not self-sustaining and self-sufficient, it is the result of the courage, determination and sacrifice of many," said Čavić.
He pointed out that today we remember the courage and sacrifices made by many people around the world to bring freedom and peace.
"In the dark days when fascism tried to take over Europe and the world, brave people stood up against evil and fought for the ideals of justice and freedom. We remember the courage of freedom fighters who fought on all fronts and especially our brave partisans who fought throughout Yugoslavia and Montenegro. We remember all those who stood up to fascist tyranny. Their courage, determination and sacrifice must never be forgotten. The ninth of May is the day when we celebrate the courage and determination of the people who fought for our freedom. It is a day when we remember the victims, but also a day when we look towards the future with hope and determination that we will always defend the values of freedom, democracy and human rights. They would have died in vain and been forgotten if we here in Pljevlje and around the world did not learn from their victims how and why to live today and be a free man and be an anti-fascist. Today, as we stand here, we must remember the importance of preserving peace and freedom, we must fight against all forms of intolerance, hatred and extremism, in order to ensure that the horrors of the past are never repeated," Čavić said.
