Today, for the first time, Nikšić is celebrating Saint Vasilij Ostroški, the patron saint of the city, for the first time by the decision of the councilors in the local parliament.
"I am honored and pleased that during my mandate as the president of the municipality, my initiative to change the statute was accepted and that the Municipal Assembly of Nikšić adopted the decision that Saint Vasilije Ostroški should be the glory and patron of our city. There is no greater glory in Nikšić than the one that Saint Basil brings, nor greater protection than the one he gives us", said Kovačević and congratulated all his fellow citizens on the occasion.
The President of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly, Nemanja Vuković, congratulated all his fellow citizens on the glory, and the temple glory to the Bishop of Buda-Nikšić, Methodius, and to the Archbishop's Vicarage of Nikšić.
"This year, for the first time, we celebrate May 12 as a celebration — the Patron Saint's Day of Nikšić Municipality, happy that we had the opportunity to translate the will and wishes of the citizens of Nikšić into action and institutionalize today's great holiday. The Ostroka shrine is a miraculous gift of God that protects and gathers us, teaching us that miracles are possible and love is invincible. May today be a reminder of his immense love for God and people, and of his strength to protect us and guide us through life's challenges . May his blessing inspire us to follow the path of faith, love and hope", said Vuković.
Kovačević and Vuković attended the liturgy this morning in the church of St. Basil. The liturgy was also attended by the Serbian ambassador to Montenegro, Nebojša Rodić, and the chief of staff of the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Velimir Đoković.
At 18 p.m., litia will begin in the streets of Nikšić, as stated by Kovačević.
