The President of the Municipality of Pljevlja, Dario Vraneš, today presented Koviljka Kovačević with the "Dragana Loncović" award, which was awarded to the best nurse in that city for the first time this year.

On the initiative of the Mayor of the Municipality, the Municipal Assembly of Pljevlja unanimously adopted the Decision establishing the "Dragana Loncović" award for the best nurse/technician, which will be awarded every year on May 12, on the International Day of Nurses.

The award is given for exceptional success and results achieved in the development, expansion and improvement of the quality of the nursing profession, nurturing the principles of humanity, nobility, empathy and self-sacrifice for others.

The establishment of the "Dragana Loncović" award is a sign of gratitude to the brave nurse and a sign of respect to the nurses and health workers in Pljevlja.

Dragana was the first victim of the corona virus among medical workers in Pljevlja. She worked in a covid clinic, and she died on August 16, 2020 at the age of 36.

Humanity and selflessness, which she showed best by volunteering to work in the covid department, as well as the desire to improve, marked Dragana's professional career. Her untimely passing left an irreparable loss not only to her family, friends and colleagues, but also to the entire community.

15 nurses/technicians were nominated for the award, and all met the requirements. The committee consisting of: Branka Stanković, Zoran Tabaš, Jelena Lončar, Katarina Loncović and Sanja Đondović proposed, and the President of the Municipality made the decision, that the prize be awarded this year to Koviljka Kovačević.

Koviljka Kovačević was born in 1963. She finished medical school in Foča, and after completing her internship in 1985, she has been employed at the Internal Medicine Department of the Pljevlja General Hospital. She has 38 years of work experience behind her. Although her health was impaired in the most difficult moments caused by the corona virus pandemic, she showed humanity, conscientiousness, responsibility and professionalism in her work and in her relationship with patients.

The winner of the award thanked and pointed out that this award is not only hers, but that of all her colleagues.

The President of the Municipality of Pljevlja greeted those present and congratulated this year's award winner.

"The commission had no easy task, which is to choose the first among equals. This year, it is our dear Koviljka Kovačević. This award is not competitive. We should not compete with each other, but with ourselves, and that means that every day we should be better than we were yesterday", said Vraneš.

Dragana's mother, Katarina Loncović, addressed those present, who pointed out that she is proud of the establishment of the award, because through it Dragana's image and work will continue to live on.
