For the first time in the history of the Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance (EMSA) and Montenegrin healthcare, we have five instructors who will be able to adequately train institutions that will, in the coming period, react in case of chemical-nuclear-biological disasters.

Today, during the first field exercise in which, among other things, representatives of the Institute, the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG), the Police Administration, the Director for Emergency Situations participated, said the Director of the Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance of Montenegro Vuk Niković.

Today, the institute presented the way in which contaminated clothing, victims of a chemical-nuclear-biological disaster is treated, how the emergency services must react...

The media had the opportunity to see for themselves the method of resuscitation, but also to witness how fire brigades function and react in such situations.

He said that another exercise will be held in Bijelo Polje, but at the end of May.

"We will have a team that will be able to react adequately in the event of an emergency..." said Niković.

He emphasized that, in the event of an incident, it is necessary to react as a team.

"This is team work. When an accident happens, certain alarms are activated at the state level and one of the links in the system will be the Institute, which will come to the scene of the incident with its team and react... When we finish the training, it remains for us to , God forbid, we react in those situations. Teamwork is something that is very important. We cannot imagine an emergency in the environment or in the European Union (EU) without such a team..." said Niković.

The instructor at the exercise, Mitar Radulović, said that this is the first time "a training like this is being done in Montenegro".

"It was not easy to prepare and organize all this. I think we showed ourselves how it would really look like in real life. This is something that all of us who practice medicine can wait for sometime in our lives..." he said.

He added that the goal of the exercise was to "get medical teams, fire crews and police ready for this" and trained.

The Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance of Montenegro became the first public health institution in the country that is trained and equipped to deal with a chemical-nuclear-biological incident (CBRN).

"As a participant of the P88 project, which is financed by the European Union and implemented by the Science and Technology Center in Ukraine, the HMP Institute previously received an ambulance intended for CBRN accidents and equipment for CBRN protection, while two doctors and three medical technicians of the institute became trainers/ instructors from chemical-biological-nuclear accidents," the Institute announced.
