Vuk Stanišić, secretary of the Podgorica Youth Association of the Socialist People's Party (SNP), said that the adaptation of beaches for people with disabilities must be one of the priorities.
"The Montenegrin coast is one of the most beautiful in this part of Europe, but most of the beaches are not accessible to people with disabilities. This is a problem that the authorities are silent about, while every attempt to solve this issue has been unsuccessful. The will to find a solution does not seem to exist The majority of PWDs cannot feel the benefits that the sea brings, and no one wants to turn their heads to this problem, which we have been reading about for days. Where there are none, there are almost none , it turns out that they do not serve the purpose and that it is not possible to use them in an adequate way. There is no need to talk about mobile elevators, because there is only one and it will be in use only from this summer season in Herceg Novi," announced Stanišić.
The fact, he adds, is that Morsko dobro leases most of the beaches to private individuals, who have no legal obligation to adapt access to the sea for people with disabilities. Most of them, he said, use the space left to them and do not adapt their beaches for the disabled, "and the burden of maintenance is not something that benefits them, because those costs are high."
"The solution could be found in the imperative provision on the arrangement of beaches for the access of persons with disabilities, which would be found in the Lease Agreement, whereby the beaches, where this is possible due to the nature of the terrain, would be equipped for access by the disabled, while the state through subsidies helped the tenants to comply with this provision and adequately maintain the driveways. This would be a big step towards the complete inclusion of PWDs in society, which would show that we are thinking of the needs of the most sensitive category of the population and that we are working in their favor," Stanišić concluded.
