President of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly, Nemanja Vuković, Secretary of the Secretariat for Culture, Sport, Youth and Social Care, Dejan Ivanović, co-president of the Women's Club of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly, Ksenija Milović and executive coordinator of the NGO "SOS telephone for women and children victims of violence Nikšić", Nataša Međedović, signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation, with the aim of improving services for the prevention, protection, rehabilitation and reintegration of victims of gender-based violence at the level of the Municipality of Nikšić.
"The signatories of the Memorandum pointed out that this act is not just a formality, but a decisive step in the fight against violence against women and children, which obligates continuous work, joint action, comprehensive assistance and support to victims and their families. Bearing in mind Montenegro's obligations towards Istanbul convention and believing that local action and community mobilization play a significant role in the fight against gender-based violence, the signatories will work on the active involvement of all relevant actors in the local community, including the business sector, the media, NGOs and institutions," reads the press release.
Their engagement, as stated, will include support for the integration of victims of violence into society, providing them with social and economic support for independent living, organizing campaigns and programs that raise awareness of gender-based violence and promote gender equality, as well as involving youth and the community in programs prevention. The signatories of the Memorandum, as concluded in the press release, expect productive cooperation in the next stages of the implementation of the Memorandum and together they will build a society without violence, providing support to those who need it most.
