The government should soon adopt the National Plan for Adaptation of Montenegro to Climate Change, which is an important strategic document for sectoral policies and overall development, announced the Minister of Tourism, Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North, Vladimir Martinović.

The public debate on the National Plan for Adaptation of Montenegro to Climate Change began on June 3, and the first round table will be held today.

"We have been waiting for a long time for the preparation and final implementation of the National Plan for adaptation of Montenegro to climate change. The document was prepared with the great support and help of the UNDP office in Podgorica, which once again confirms the high-quality and substantive cooperation between this organization and the relevant Ministry," said Martinović.

He pointed out that the value of the Plan is contained in very precise and high-quality analyzes of the state of particularly vulnerable policies and sectors in Montenegro, but equally adequate remedial measures, mitigation and prevention of negative consequences for the development of Montenegro and the standard of its citizens.

"Our intention is to point out the future that awaits us, but also to make it easier to prepare for the time to come thanks to this document," said Martinović.

He invited everyone to actively participate in the public debate and make that document even better with their suggestions and proposals, which will be an important foundation of European integration in the coming period.

"Managing climate risks implies the beginning of a continuous process whose goal is to increase Montenegro's resistance to all climate risks, and to strengthen and synergize all capacities that will be put into operation for this purpose," explained Martinović.

He added that he is pleased by the fact that the adoption of that document will not end the Ministry's obligations, but rather the opposite - only then will it begin together with all the plans.

"As an ecological state with the noble goal of preserving natural values and beauties, we have an additional obligation to develop dedicated mechanisms that will preserve these spaces," said Martinović.

Montenegro, as he said, is not a significant emitter that affects global warming, but just like others, it must work intensively to eliminate all types of vulnerability that have been witnessed in recent years.

"Exactly for this reason, I invite once again all those interested to be a part of this process and to come to the best solutions together", concluded Martinović.
