The National Parks of Montenegro (NPCG) announced that a herd of chamois in the Durmitor National Park (NP) was threatened by the irresponsible use of a drone.

The NPCG points out that the Durmitor National Park is a unique natural area whose trademark is the chamois, which is a protected species, and whose population, after many years of protection measures and efforts by the NPCG and other competent institutions, is stable and increasing.

"We emphasize that this procedure, due to the reckless use of aircraft, leads to disturbance of the animal world, which is prohibited in accordance with the Law on Nature Protection and the Law on National Parks, especially during the period of reproduction, feeding, hibernation or migration. At the same time, drones create noise and disturb the peace, which negatively affects the fauna. National parks will report all cases of animal harassment to the competent authorities so that the perpetrators are sanctioned in a timely manner," the announcement states.

They point out that most countries prohibit the use of drones in national parks.

"And the reason for that, among other things, are the warnings of experts that the use of unmanned aerial vehicles harms biodiversity and disturbs the animal life of the parks. In this regard, we emphasize that the use of drones is not allowed within the borders of the NPCG without prior consent from the competent state authorities, the Civil Aviation Agency , Environmental Protection Agency and with the approval of the Public Enterprise for National Parks of Montenegro".

NPCG notes that in the coming period, in cooperation with competent state authorities, they will undertake intensive actions to control and suppress all types of illegal activities in national parks.

"We hereby appeal to all visitors and users of the space to respect the internal order and rules of conduct in national parks. According to the current legislation, the person who flies the drone is considered the leader of the aircraft, and in the event of a violation, the penal provisions prescribed by the Air Traffic Act are applied," it says in announcement.
