Montenegrin high school students are preparing for the 20th International Geography Olympiad (iGeo 2024), which will be held from August 19 to 24, 2024, in Maynooth and Dublin, Ireland, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MPNI) announced.

This year's edition of iGeo will gather teams from 47 countries, and Montenegro will be represented by Dajana Đuranović from the Gymnasium "Petar I Petrović Njegoš" in Danilovgrad, Iva Vučković from the Gymnasium Cetinje, and Bogdan Radulović from the Secondary Mixed School "Danilo Kiš" in Budva.

The Ministry emphasized that the organization and coordination of the team's preparation are in the hands of the Examination Center.

The leader of the team is Seka Slavković from the "Danilo Kiš" Middle School in Budva, and her deputy is Milica Čelebić, public relations advisor at the Examination Center.

The competition at the International Geography Olympiad consists of three parts, explained MPNI.

One part of the test is of the essay type - contestants must describe the processes based on the attached materials, the second part is multimedia, and the third is field work, that is, movement and insight into the situation on the ground and proposing spatial-planning solutions.

Miroslav Doderović and Dragan Burić from the Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšić are responsible for the team's preparations.

The previous week, from June 20 to 24, 2024, Montenegro hosted the sixth Balkan Physics Olympiad, held in Nikšić. That competition gathered around 100 participants from 12 countries, and the Olympiad was organized by the Society of Mathematicians and Physicists of Montenegro, with the support of the University of Montenegro, the Faculty of Science, the Examination Center and the Domen company.

Montenegro was represented by a team of four students from the Gymnasium "Slobodan Škerović" Jovan Janković, Mihailo Babić, Nikša Bulatović and Andreja Popović, who achieved enviable results. Janković won the silver medal, while Popović and Babić earned bronze medals. This, it was announced earlier, is the best result achieved by the Montenegrin team since the establishment of the Balkan Physics Olympiad.
