The Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Anđela Jakšić-Stojanović, in a short time gained the trust of her colleagues from the Educational Community, as well as the civic-oriented society, by initiating important processes that had been deliberately neglected for years, a group of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) announced today.
In a statement signed by the NGO Center for Women's Rights, the NGO Parents, the Association of Youth with Disabilities of Montenegro, the Spektra Association, the SOS Telephone for Women and Children Victims of Violence Nikšić, the NGO Juventas, the Association of LBTQ Women in Stan, the NGO Queer Montenegro and the Center for Roma Initiatives, it is stated that they are reacting to the possible dismissal of Jakšić-Stojanović.
"Radical impoverishment and the degradation of the educational system and the escalation of peer violence are the most visible consequences of neglectful policies and practices," the announcement states.
The NGO group states that the Montenegrin society has waited too long for a person to be at the head of the education system who, in addition to being "from the classroom", knows and knows how to design and implement changes that have been expected for decades, and provide results in a short period of time.
"The fact that Jakšić-Stojanović gained the trust and support of the education profession in the past period is the most important prerequisite that should carry the education reform that has begun, which will be built on the elementary right of every child - the right to quality education. That is why we join the petition of the Educational Community that Anđela Jakšić-Stojanović remains in the position of Minister of Education," the announcement reads.
The group of NGOs said that they remind that the coalition parties, with the Agreement on the Constitution of the 44th Government, formally committed themselves to more equal participation of women in ministerial positions, when they "responsibly took an active role in the creation and implementation of policies that support equality".
"That's why, if the announced reconstruction takes place, we expect a higher number of female ministers than the current 17%, which must lead to the fulfillment of the mandatory recommendation of the CEDAW Committee, which calls for gender parity of 50%, by 2027 at the latest. Ignore the fact that 96,9% of employees in pre-school education, 76,9% in primary education and 68% in secondary education, is politically irresponsible. It is politically incorrect to ignore the fact that civic-minded and professional women in decision-making positions can essentially articulate all the problems faced by a department dominated by women teaching staff," the announcement reads.
From the group of NGOs, they also state that instead of professional positioning in the department of education, it was political that led that department to an unenviable position.
"Ceding education to a political party whose actions are colored by inciting nationalist ideology, which nullifies basic human rights, is a serious patriarchal hypocrisy that deserves our most radical protest. In addition, it is also political hypocrisy, because it embodies everything that the current government criticized when it was in opposition Our children have the right to be brought up and educated exclusively on the principles of equality, tolerance, mutual respect, non-violent conflict resolution and anti-fascism. All these are basic feminist principles ideologies and their advocates have no place in enlightened Montenegro, and certainly not in the one where equality is supported, which the 44th Government has committed to," the announcement concludes.
The President of the Parliament of Montenegro and the leader of the New Serbian Democracy (NSD), Andrija Mandić, said on July 9, speaking about the reconstruction of the Government, that the Ministry of Education and the departments of spatial planning and tourism will belong to the NSD in the Government.
