The non-governmental organization (NGO) "Center for the Affirmation of the RE Population" (CAREP) from Nikšić decided to organize three cleaning actions, three different localities, during the next three months, in order to draw attention to the bad ecological image of the city.

The actions are carried out as part of the project "When you come, take it, when you leave, take it away", which lasts for three months and aims to raise the awareness of citizens about the importance of environmental protection, as well as pointing out endangered localities in the city.

"With this project, we wanted to send a message to the citizens that we have to take care that the space remains clean after our stay in nature," said CAREP president Nardi Ahmetović, during the presentation of the mentioned project.

Project coordinator Aleksandra Božović said that they have chosen three locations to clean - Trebjesa Forest Park, the banks of the Bistrica River, and the Salt Lake.

"The aim of the project is to clean selected localities in the municipality of Nikšić and to raise public awareness of the importance of environmental cleanliness and waste disposal through volunteer actions and educational workshops, as well as to reduce the distance between members of the Roma-Egyptian community and the majority community by joint participation in project activities," she said. Bozovic.

She emphasized the importance of the mentioned locations and reminded that in the report of the European Union for 2022, it was stated that in Montenegro "in half a year there were 101 cases of illegal dumping of garbage, of which less than half were legally resolved", that in Nikšić there were 30 illegal landfills, that cultural and historical sites are endangered and that Montenegro is slowly losing its status as an ecological state.

After the presentation of the project, the first action followed - the cleaning of the Trebjesa forest park, in the part near Trebješka street.

The project "When you come - take it, when you leave - take it away" was financed as part of the public call for Zero Waste Montenegro and the Environmental Protection Agency as part of the grant scheme through the project "For a cleaner Montenegro" as part of the FEF OSC PUMP MONTENEGRO 2024 and in the agreement on financial support with the decision of the Embassy of France.
