The member of the Social Democrats (SD) in the Assembly of the Capital City Miloš Mašković did not visit the Shelter for abandoned and lost pets, which is a prerequisite for reasoned criticism or praise, it was announced today from the Podgorica company Čistoća.

They reacted to Mašković's statement yesterday, in which he said, among other things, that Čistoća is hiding the truth from citizens, and that over 50 dogs died in the shelter in the previous two months.

Čistoća said that on the occasion of the statement, they are submitting the most important data related to the situation in the Shelter, solely with the intention of providing citizens with accurate information.

"At the beginning, we would like to point out that the answers to the questions sent by Councilor Mašković, along with a copy of the requested supporting documentation, were delivered on Friday, July 12, and it is surprising why he states in the announcement that he did not receive them. We emphasize that we have received everything so far sent requests for free access to information, inquiries from citizens or the media, always responded in the shortest possible time with the communication of all the information we have and which we can prove by looking at the protocols and records kept in the Shelter", emphasizes the announcement of the Podgorica Čistoća.

The city company stated that, accusing them of manipulation of information, Mašković also stated that "we think there is no knowledge of what is happening there", which, as they stated, they might be right, because Mašković did not visit the Shelter, which is, as they said, a prerequisite for reasoned criticism or praise.

"We are sure that everyone who visits the Shelter has arguments for both, noting that we are proud of everything that has been done and improved in this segment over the years, but we are also aware that there is still a lot that awaits us in the coming period. The Podgorica Shelter is recognized as an example of good practice when it comes to these facilities, and this was confirmed by the manager of the Zagreb asylum during a recent visit, with suggestions as to what should be changed in the coming period in order to provide even better conditions for the dogs cared for in this area." it is written in the announcement.

From Čistoća, they said that in the past month, they faced the problem of the appearance of the parvo virus, which led to the death of 23 puppies during June and July, and a total of 30 dogs died in their Shelter since the beginning of the year.

"We are aware that this issue has caused concern in our community, but we must point out that the crisis period has passed and precautionary measures are in place to prevent another escalation. Unfortunately, parvo virus in facilities like this one, once it appears, is difficult to can be eradicated, and is transmitted very easily through contact. Until now, the parvo virus has been present in the Shelter due to the large number of dogs and the impossibility of providing almost sterile conditions for the isolation of puppies, as well as the fact that it is very difficult to provide ideal conditions after disinfecting the space." , they said from Čistoća.

They note that they have now taken all measures to resolve this situation and have informed the public about all the steps through the media.

"The involvement of people from the profession, volunteers and all relevant addresses has resulted in a situation that is currently satisfactory, and all further steps are planned solely with the aim of the welfare of the animals and the improvement of the conditions in the Shelter. We use the opportunity to appeal to citizens to be conscientious owners and take care for the controlled reproduction of their pets, in order to reduce the number of abandoned dogs on the streets of the capital.
