Consuming several Podgorica settlements, suburban ones, but also those in the inner city core, as well as the part of the municipality of Zeta that is still under the jurisdiction of the company Vodovod and Sewerage Podgorica, they claim that they have had no water for days.
"Our taps have been dry for days, in these temperatures. City water doesn't arrive until around midnight and the pressure is such that you can't even wash your hands. This has been the case for years during the summer months, and this summer it is a complete disaster. Some of the neighbors have their own wells, but it's a matter of days when they too will touch the sludge, while the rest of us buy water for both drinking and hygiene," a resident of Mahala, in the Municipality of Zeta, told "Vijesta".
The residents of Lješanska nahija also have a problem with low water pressure, but also with frequent water shortages.
President of the Committee of Citizens of Lješanska nahija for coordination with Podgorica Vodovod Predrag Kazic He told "Vijesta" that the locals "feel very threatened because of the water problem". According to him, because of this, the locals are organizing a meeting during which they will decide on further steps.
"At the assembly, we will decide on the next steps to protect our human rights. We invited representatives of the Waterworks. We do not have answers to some very important questions, which are not clear to us. Some parts of Lješanska nahija have not had a drop of water for the last ten days," said Kažić.
Director of the Podgorica Waterworks Aleksandar Nišavić he told "Vijesti" that the representatives of that company "are not able to come to the assembly due to previously undertaken obligations".
"In Lješanska nahija there is a pronounced problem of irrational consumption, i.e. watering. All three pumps are in operation, the inflow has increased by 46 percent, but the consumption has increased due to watering," Nišavić said, adding that "they are in constant communication with representatives of the local community, with whom they are taking all measures in accordance with the possibilities and competencies".
A resident of Zeta told "Vijesti" that, this year, "more than ever they have a problem with illegal connections".
"We have been dealing with this problem for years, but until this year we had understanding from 'Vodovod' and if we reported the problem, they would know how to react and who is illegally connected to the network. The problem would be solved within a day after their teams took the field. This year, from the Podgorica Vodovod hotlines, they refer us to the Municipality of Zeta, from which they again refer us to the Podgorica Vodovod, and so on in a circle. "Certainly, this problem must be solved permanently, because we are aware that some people have illegal connections due to agricultural plantations and do not want to pay for the water used, but we are the only ones who suffer because of this," she said.
Nišavić said that Vodovod organizes actions to detect "illegal consumers".
"... And he uses all the mechanisms to sanction it. We ask consumers to report illegal consumption to our hotlines," Nišavić said.
Answering the question of "Vijesti" how the problem of low water pressure will be alleviated for the residents of Block V in Podgorica, Nišavić replied that Vodovodod solves all reported problems promptly.
"Consumers can report all malfunctions on the phone number 440 339. If we are talking about installations for which Vodovod is responsible, teams will go to the field as soon as possible to intervene," concludes Nišavić.
