The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, on the occasion of July 21 - Berane Municipality Day, sent congratulations to the President of the Municipal Assembly, councilors, management and employees of the Municipality, and citizens, saying that the city of Berane has been the cradle of libertarian ideas many times throughout history.
"July 21, 1941, when the first session of the People's Liberation Committee for Srez Beranski was held in the light of the national uprising in Montenegro, is a testimony to this. This important date is one of the most significant in the historical memory of the Vasojevic region. Spread the word about the uprising against the scourge of fascism, awakened the libertarian spirit of the brave citizens of Berane, who unitedly and selflessly made a significant contribution to the anti-fascist struggle and the subsequent final liberation of our country interfaith harmony, the most important values of Montenegrin society," Milatović announced.
He said that Berane, as a "regional meeting point that abounds in natural beauty such as the Beran basin, surrounded by the mountain ranges of Bjelasica, Smiljevica and Turjak", has the potential to be a leader in the economic development of the north.
"The last few decades of the 20th century were characterized by the accelerated economic development of Beran, led by giants such as 'Celuloza', 'Polimka', Rudnik, ŠIK 'Polimlje', which financed all aspects of the life of this beautiful community. Unfortunately, the decades that followed brought are bad privatizations, non-domestic management and stagnation in the city's economic development," added Milatović.
He says he is convinced that the time has come for progress and investment "in one of the most beautiful northern Montenegrin municipalities".
"Better valorization of natural resources, along with the improvement of the key transport infrastructure, offers a chance to strengthen economic activity in the fields of agriculture, forestry and tourism, which would create space for the creation of new jobs, attracting investments and the stay of young people in this area. I believe that the local administration will with a responsible approach to these possibilities, in coordination with the state authorities, to enable better quality and better life for all the citizens of Berane, and to create favorable conditions for the development and progress of the community. it is stated in Milatović's congratulatory message.
