Cijevna, Morača and Zeta are natural jewels and on their shores many citizens seek refuge from the unbearable heat.
The beaches are visited, especially on weekends, and are the perfect place to cool off at about forty degrees, which meteorologists have been measuring in the Zeta-Bjelopavlić plain for days.
Crystal Pipe
Among the bathers are foreign tourists, often fascinated by the beauty of the rivers.
Cijevna, an emerald-colored river, meanders through the rocky landscape with its untamed beauty. Its rapids and crystal clear water attract many visitors who want to immerse themselves in its coldness. Like golden threads, the sun's rays break through the dense canopy, playing on the surface of the water and creating breathtaking scenes.
Especially on weekends, the wild beauty comes to life. Children's laughter, excited shouts of young people and whispers of couples in love fill the air. On the shores, families spread colorful blankets, bringing with them picnic baskets full of local specialties.
Foreigners, intrigued by stories about the hidden pearl of Montenegro, come to feel the magic of this place. The sound of different languages mixes with the murmur of the river, creating a harmony that captures the hearts of all present.
The families we met on the coast of Cijevna say that they are there often, that it is the best place for them to cool off on hot summer days, when they can't drive to the sea because of the big crowds.
There is also a restaurant nearby, and the owners told the "Vijesti" reporter that they have many guests and that more sunbeds are required on weekends. They point out that there are tourists from various parts of the world, and on Friday two Swedes were also cooling off at Cijevna.
One of those present said that she prefers Cijevna because it is shallower than Morača, where she is afraid to swim. As she explained, this is the reason she brings her children there.
The greenery of Zeta
The Zeta River in Rogami offers calmer and more natural beaches. Visiting the beaches along the Zeta is like returning to untouched nature. Those looking for peace and quiet, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, gather here on weekends. Families often bring barbecues and children play in the clear waters of the river.
Zeta, with its calm flow, provides tranquility and escape from the everyday rush. Its shores, overgrown with dense greenery, represent everything that nature has to offer. Time seems to stand still, allowing visitors to experience each moment in its full beauty.
On its shores, "Vijesti" reporters mostly met children jumping from the diving board, bragging about their latest tricks. As the present locals explained, they live nearby and have been coming there every day with their families for years.
Locals tell tourists to be careful, because every day they have cases where someone almost drowns. As explained by those present, they believe that it is necessary to place a sign with a warning that the river is not for weak swimmers.
Morača, a city boon
The Morača River, which runs through the very center of Podgorica, offers several well-maintained beaches that are easily accessible to city residents. The beach under the Blaž Jovanovića bridge, on Skaline, is particularly popular. During the summer, when the city's temperatures exceed 40 degrees, refreshment in Morača is a real blessing.
The sound of guitars and songs can be heard from a nearby bar, creating an atmosphere of summer carefreeness. Tourists, attracted by the stories of the hospitality of the people of Podgorica, come to feel the spirit of the city through the prism of its river.
We met a couple from Canada and England, who said that they were there for the first time and that they really enjoyed swimming.
They say that they did not expect such temperatures, so they immediately found refreshment at the nearest river. They also asked for recommendations for the best traditional Montenegrin food, because, as they explained, they were tired after swimming in the fast Morača.
On weekends, the beach at Skaline becomes the center of social life. Young people gather to socialize, swim and sunbathe, while families with small children enjoy the shallow parts of the river. Apart from local visitors, you can often see tourists who use it to feel the spirit of Podgorica from a different perspective. The sound of rafts and the laughter of children contribute to the special ambience of this urban oasis.
Podgorica's beaches provide perfect refreshment during hot summer days. While the temperatures in the city often become unbearable, the rivers offer a pleasant escape and opportunity to relax.
These are places where locals and tourists meet, where different languages are heard and where nature offers the best possible protection from the summer heat.
Locals often say that these rivers are their "little sea", especially for those who cannot often travel to the Montenegrin coast.
