Almost a third of the members of the Roma and Egyptian population (RE) - 28 percent of them are beneficiaries of material security, while 31 percent of the members of that community are registered as unemployed, the results of the first census of that population showed.
The census, which was carried out by the Ministries of Labor and Social Welfare, Human and Minority Rights and the Department of Education, in cooperation with the German organization "Help", showed that four percent of the members of these communities are entitled to personal disability allowance, and that 10 percent of them use the allowance for someone else's care and help.
"When we talk about the legal status of the head of the household, among the respondents, seven percent do not have personal documents, four percent are not registered in the birth register, and 36 percent of respondents do not have a travel document (passport). The largest percentage of members of the Roma and Egyptian community declared that they had lived in Montenegro for 10 to 35 years (59 percent), more than 35 years (40 percent), less than 10 years (one percent)," the Ministry of Labor announced. and social care.
They said that four percent of children from the Roma and Egyptian communities were not registered in the Montenegrin birth register.
They emphasized that they are worried about the data showing that "only seven percent of children attend preschool, 45 percent attend the primary education system."
"Furthermore, a large deviation was observed from the number of children enrolled in the first grade of primary school, from the number of children who complete primary education. The goal of the census is to collect relevant data that will enable the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, as well as other relevant departments, to create policies aimed at improving the living conditions of this minority community in Montenegro," the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare announced.
